Plectranthus amboinicus

Plectranthus amboinicus

The Cuban oregano (Plectranthus amboinicus) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is believed to originate from India. The height is about 30-60 cm and the leaves are green or variegated. The weak stems and colorful leaves resemble "coleus". It does not grow much in winter, but grows from spring to summer. Inconspicuous flowers bloom in fall. Fresh leaves are used as a spice in place of "oregano".
