ベトナム北部から中国西部に分布しています。山地や低木林に生え、高さは４〜８メートルになります。枝は細長く、赤褐色をしています。葉は１０〜１４対の小葉からなる奇数羽状複葉で、小葉は楕円形です。小葉の縁には上半分に鈍鋸歯があります。５月から６月ごろ、白色の花を咲かせます。果実はナシ状果でしばしば深紅色、成熟すると白色または深紅色の斑点がある白色になります。果実の基部には赤褐色の毛が生えます。本種は、性二倍体であるため、非常に変異が多いのが特徴です。

The Rowan (Sorbus pseudovilmorinii) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from northern Vietnam to western China. It grows in mountainous areas and shrubland and grows 4 to 8 m tall. The branches are long and slender and reddish brown in color. The leaves are odd pinnate compound with 10 to 14 pairs of leaflets, and the leaflets are elliptic. The leaflets have blunt serrations on the upper half. The fruit is pome-like and often deep red, turning white or white with deep red spots when mature. The base of the fruit is covered with reddish-brown hairs. This species is sexually diploid and therefore highly variable.
