ヨーロッパの南部、スペインからイタリアが原産です。高さは１〜１．２メートルになります。葉は灰緑色で、細かい裂片に分裂しています。９月から１０月ごろ、小さくて黄色い頭花を咲かせます。茎や葉には強い樟脳の臭いがあり、昔から芳香剤や防虫サシェとして利用されてきました。

The Southernwood (Artemisia abrotanum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a deciduous shrub that is native to southern Europe, from Spain to Italy. This shrub can reach 1-1.2 m in height. The leaves are grayish-green and divided into fine lobes. The small yellow flowerheads appear from September to October. The stem and leaves have a strong camphor-like odour and have been used as an air freshener or repellent sachet since early times.
