The Peace lily (Spathiphyllum cannifolium) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to north South America and the Caribbean island of Trinidad. It grows in tropical forests and forming a clump. The leaves are green, glossy, and ovate with entire margins, up to 50cm long. The flowers are composed of a cream coloured spathe and a yellow spadix, are up to 7 cm long and appear on a flowering stalk. They are fragrant. In Japanese name, it is called "Oo-sasa-uchiwa" (Large bamboo grass fan).
