南アフリカが原産です。高さは１０〜４０センチになり、剣状の葉が花序近くまでつきます。３月から５月ごろ、茎頂に「バビアナ」に似た、彩りのコントラストが強い派手な花を咲かせます。昼間だけ咲いて、曇りの日や夜には閉じます。また咲き終わると花がポロリと落ちるので、切り花には向きません。 |

アヤメ科スパラクシス属の多年草で、学名は Sparaxis tricolor。英名は Harlequin flower、Wandflower。 |

The Harlequin flower (Sparaxis tricolor) belongs to Iridaceae (the Iris family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South Africa. It can reach 10-40 cm in height and has gladiate leaves near the inflorescence. From March to May, a flashy flower with a strong contrast of color, similar to "Babiana", blooms on the stem apex. It blooms only during the day and closes on cloudy days and nights. Also, when it finishes blooming, the flowers will fall off, so it is not suitable for cut flowers. |
