The Purple spurry (Spergularia purpurea) belongs to Caryophyllaceae (the Carnation family). It is an annual or a biennial herb that is native to the Mediterranean; Spain, Portugal and Morocco. This herb grows in non-saline sandy, waste places, and it can reach 10-25 cm in height. The leaves are linear, not fleshy, and basal in rosette. The rose-purple flowers bloom in slack cymes in late spring and summer. The flower has ten or fewer stamens with yellow anthers and three styles. The fruit is a capsule.
