南アメリカの熱帯地域が原産です。高さは１．５メートルほどになります。葉は楕円形で対生し、縁には鋸歯があります。３月から９月ごろ、枝先に１５〜２５センチの穂状花序をつけ、小さなピンク色の花をつぎつぎと咲かせます。１つの穂状花序には数個の花しかつきません。

クマツヅラ科ホナガソウ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Stachytarpheta mutabilis。英名は Red porterweed、Pink snakeweed。

The Red porterweed (Stachytarpheta mutabilis) belongs to Verbenaceae (thr Verbena family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the tropical regions of South America. The height will be about 1.5 m. The leaves are ovate and opposite, with serrated edges. From March to September, the spikes of 15 to 25 cm are attached to the tips of the branches, and small pink flowers bloom one after another. Only a few flowers are attached to one spike.
