地中海沿岸が原産です。日当たりの良い野原に生え、高さは４５〜６０センチになります。茎には稜があり、翼が発達しています。葉はへら形で根生します。初夏から秋にかけて、茎頂に円錐花序をだし萼片の目立つ花を咲かせます。萼片は紫色や青色、藤色、ピンク色、黄色、白色などがあり、花弁は小さく白色です。花後も萼片は色あせしないで残るので、ドライフラワーにも利用されます。和名では「はなはまさじ（花浜匙）」とも呼ばれます。

イソマツ科イソマツ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Limonium sinuatum。英名は Statice。

The Statice (Limonium sinuatum) belongs to the family Plumbaginaceae. It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native along the Mediterranean Sea. This herb grows in sunny fields and can reach 45-60 cm in height. The stem has ridges and upgrowth wings. The leaves are spatulate and basal. The panicles are borne at the stem ends and bloom flowers with conspicuous calyces from early summer to fall. The calyx is purple, blue, lilac, pink, yellow or white and the petal is small white. The flowers are used as dried flower because of the colorfast calyces remain after flowering.
