オーストラリアの北東部、ニューサウスウェールズ州北東部からクイーンズランド州東部それにパプアニューギニアに分布しています。海岸近くの雨林のなかに生え、高さは６〜９メートルになります。樹皮は黄褐色から淡褐色で滑らかです。葉は円形から楕円形で、羽状に深裂します。夏から秋にかけて、葉腋から車輪のスポークのような散形花序をだし、小さな橙赤色の花を咲かせます。果実は楕円形の莢果で、裂開し暗褐色に熟します。

ヤマモガシ科ステノカルプス属の常緑小高木で、学名は Stenocarpus sinuatus。英名は Fire wheel tree。

The Fire wheel tree (Stenocarpus sinuatus) belongs to the family Proteaceae. It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is distributed to northeastern Australia, from northeastern New South Wales to the eastern Queensland and to Papua New Guinea. This tree grows in the rain forest near the coast and up to a height of 6-9 m. The bark is yellowish brown to light brown and smooth. The leaves are round to elliptic, and divided into deep segments palmetely. The umbels like spokes of a wheel, and are brought out from the axilis from summer to fall. The orange red flowers will bloom. The fruits are elliptic pods, which are cleaved and ripe to dark brown.
