The Butterfly vine (Stigmaphyllon ciliatum) belongs to the family Malpighiaceae. It is an evergreen woody vine that is distributed in tropical America. It is a vine and entangles with other trees, and its length is 4.5 to 6 m. The leaves are heart-shaped and shiny, with spiny serrations on the edges. It is usually bright green, but it turns bronze when the sun is too strong. From summer to fall, umbels are borne on the axils and small yellow flowers resembling "crepe myrtle" bloom. In Japanese name, it is called "Tsuru-kin-torano" (vine gold tiger tail).
