ビルマが原産です。高さは６０〜９０センチになります。葉は披針状卵形で、表面には青色や藤色などの斑が入り、裏面は紅紫色です。冬から春にかけて、紫色の筒状の花を咲かせます。別名で、「うらむらさき（裏紫）」とも呼ばれます。

キツネノマゴ科イセハナビ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Strobilanthes dyerianus。英名は Persian shield。

The Persian shield (Strobilanthes dyerianus) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Burma. This shrub can reach 60-90 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate-ovate with blue or lilac mottles and pale magenta on the reverse sides. Purple tubular flowers come in winter to spring.
