台湾の固有種です。標高７００0～２３００メートルの森林の渓谷に生え、高さは８０センチほどになります。茎はかなり分枝し、断面は四角形です。葉は披針形から卵形で先端は尖り、縁には鋸歯があります。８月から１０月ごろ、葉腋に花序をだし、１～３個の筒状花を咲かせます。花冠は紫がかった青色です。果実は、楕円形の蒴果です。台湾華語では「台灣馬藍」、中国語では「台湾馬藍（tai wan ma lan）」、日本語では「やまあいもどき（山藍擬き）」と呼ばれます。

キツネノマゴ科イセハナビ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Strobilanthes formosana (syn. Strobilanthes formosanus)。英名はありません。

The Strobilanthes formosana belongs to Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is an evergreen shrub that is endemic to Taiwan. It grows in forested valleys at elevations of 700 to 2300 m and grows to a height of about 80 cm. The stem is quite branched and square in cross section. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate with pointed tips and serrated edges. 1 to 3 tubular flowers are produced in inflorescences in the leaf axils from August to October. The corolla is purplish blue. The fruit is an elliptic capsule. It is called "台灣馬藍" in Taiwanese, "台湾馬藍" (tai wan ma lan) in Chinese and "山藍擬き" (Yama-ai-modoki).
