アメリカ・テキサス州の西部に分布しています。石灰岩地に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉はほとんど円形で互生し、下部では茎を抱きます。３月から５月ごろ、茎の先に、直径２．５〜４センチくらいの古い風車のような紫色の花を咲かせます。

アブラナ科ストレプタンツス属の一年草で、学名は Streptanthus platycarpus。英名は Broadpod twistflower、Broadpod jewelflower。

The Broadpod twistflower (Streptanthus platycarpus) belongs to Brassiaceae (the Mustard family). It is an annual herb that is native to western Texas in the United States. This herb grows in calcareous places and can reach about 1 m in height. The leaves are nearly round, alternate, and the lower part enfolds the stem. The flowers bloom on the terminal branches from March to May. They are purple, 2.5-4 cm across, and look like an old windmill.
