The Notocactus uebelmannianus belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a ball cuctus that is native to Brazil in the area of Rio Grande Do Sul. It grows in flattened rocky terrains amongst agricultural land, and can reach about 20 cm in height. The stem is shiny dark green, globular or squatty, and up to 12 cm tall and 17 cm in diameter, with 12-16 ribs. The central spines are usually absent, and the radial spines are about 6 spider-like, white to grayish, 10 to 30 mm long. The wine red to deep magenta flowers are short funnel-form, about 5 cm in diameter, and bloom from spring to early summer.
