「ねいはきんかん（寧波金柑）」と「ぽんかん（椪柑）」との属間交配種です。高さは２．４〜３メートルになり、長楕円形の果実をつけます。果実は「きんかん」よりも大きくて甘く、果皮も食べられます。別名で「タンカット」とも呼ばれます。ただ「レモンカット」と同じく、「メイヤーレモン」と「きんかん類」との交配種だという記述もあります。

ミカン科キトロフォルツネラ属の常緑低木で、学名は X Citrofortunella sp.。英名は Sunquat、Tanquat。

The Sunquat (X Citrofortunella sp.) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is a small everegreen tree that is a hybrid between Meiwa kumquat (Fortunella crassifolia) and Tangeline (Citrus reticulata). This tree grows 2.4-3 m tall and bears oblong fruit that is larger than a kumquat and sweeter with an edible peel. It is also called a Tanquat. However, as with "Lemonquat", there is also a description that it is a hybrid of "Meyer lemon" and "kumquat".
