The Sydney blue gum (Eucalyptus saligna) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed in the eastern part of Australia, from Queensland to New South Wales. It grows in moist forests and on hillsides, reaching a height of about 50 m. The bark is grayish-brown and coarsely creviced on the lower parts, but peels off to a smooth white to gray color after about 4 m. The leaves are dark green, broadly lanceolate, and glossy. From January to April, the plant produces umbels from the leaf axils and produces 7 to 11 pale yellowish-white flowers each.
