The Zinnia (Zinnia marylandica) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is a hybrid of the Common zinnia (Zinnia elegans) and the Narrow-leaf zinnia (Zinnia angustifolia). It was developed at the University of Maryland in the 1980s. It is resistant to high temperatures, drought and disease, and grows to a height of 30 to 45 cm. The photo shows a double-flowered variety of the Zahara series.
