アメリカの南部からメキシコが原産です。「ペポかぽちゃ」の変種で、花がついたままの未熟な果実を食用にします。「ズッキーニ（Zucchini）」という名前はイタリア語です。地中海沿岸のイタリアや南フランスでは料理に欠かせない素材となっています。国内での主な産地は、宮崎県や長野県、千葉県です。 写真中７の品種は「グリーントスカ（cv. Green Tosca）」、 中８は「ゴールドトスカ（cv. Gold Tosca）」、 中９は「ダイナー（cv. Diner）」、 中１０が「グリーンエッグ（cv. Green Egg）」、 中１１が「青馬（cv. Cheongma）」、 中１２が「グリーンボート２号（cv. Green Boat Ⅱ）」、 中１３が「オーラム（cv. Aurum）」、そして中１４が「イエローボート（cv. Yellow Boat）」。 |

The Summer squash (Cucurbita pepo var. melopepo) belongs to Cucurbitaceae (the Gourd family). It is an annual herb that is native to the southern United States and Mexico. This herb is a variety of Cucurbita pepo, and the underripe fruits are used as food. The fruit is also called Zucchini, and used as an essential cooking ingredient in Italia and southern France. The main producing district is Miyazaki, Nagano and Chiba prefecture in Japan.
