ジゴペタルム属は、南アメリカから中央アメリカに４０種ほどが分布しています。着生または地生する「らん」です。卵形の偽鱗茎に、２〜数個の革質の葉がつきます。偽鱗茎の基部から花茎を伸ばして、芳香のある花を咲かせます。改良交配も進み、さまざまな園芸品種があります。

ラン科ジゴペタルム属の常緑多年草で、学名は Zygopetalum sp.(属の総称)。英名は Zygopetalum。

The Zygopetalum belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a genus of about 40 species of evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from South America to Central America. This orchid is an epiphyte or terrestrial. The pseudo-bulbs are ovate and come into 2-several leathery leaves. The flowering stalks are borne on the base of bulbs and bloom fragrant flowers. Many cultivars have been breeded.
