南アメリカのチリの中部が原産です。一属一種で、高さは２５メートル以上になり、幹は大きくて、直径１．３メートル以上になります。葉は羽状複葉で、３〜５メートルの長さがあります。成長は非常に遅いですが、千年以上の寿命があります。別名で「ちりさけやし（チリ酒椰子）」とも呼ばれます。

ヤシ科チリヤシ属の常緑高木で、学名は Jubaea chilensis。英名は Chilean wine palm。

The Chilean wine palm (Jubaea chilensis) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to central Chile. This is a sole species in the genus Jubaea. This palm can reach about 25 m in height with a massive trunk up to 1.3 m in diameter. Leaves are pinnate compound, 3-5 m long. This palm grows very slowly, though it keeps alive over one thousand years.
