"Chosen-yama-tsutsuji" (Rhododendron yedoense var. yedoense f. poukhanense) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to the Korean Peninsula. This tree grows in scrubs or rocky places, and can reach 1-1.5 m in height. The leaves are narrow oblong, arranged alternately, and crowd on the terminal branches. The young branches and leaves are covered with pale brown hairs. The magenta to pale magenta flowers bloom at the terminal branches from April to May. The corolla is funnel-shaped, quintuple-lobate at the tips and has dark magenta specks at the upper lobes. The flower has usually ten stamens.
