アメリカのテキサス州中南部とメキシコ北部が原産です。乾燥した草地や道ばたなどに生え、高さは２０〜３０センチになります。茎はよく分枝して、長く地面を這います。葉は複葉で、小葉は糸状からレース状、裂片状で、潰すとレモンのような香りがします。夏から初秋にかけて、茎頂に黄色い頭花を咲かせます。頭花は直径１２ミリほどで、中央の黄色の筒状花を黄色の舌状花が取り囲んでいます。園芸上は、春まき一年草とされています。和名では、「からくさしゅんぎく（唐草春菊）」と呼ばれます。

キク科ティモフィラ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Thymophylla tenuiloba (syn. Dyssodia tenuiloba)。英名は Dahlberg daisy、Henry Dahlberg daisy、Golden fleece。

The Dahlberg daisy (Thymophylla tenuiloba) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to south-central Texas in the United States and northern Mexico. It grows in dry meadows and along roadsides and is 20-30 cm tall. The stems are well branched and long and creeping on the ground. The leaves are compound, and the leaflets are filiform to lacy or lobed, with a lemon-like scent when crushed. Yellow flower heads bloom at the top of the stems from summer to early fall. The flower heads are about 12 mm in diameter, with yellow tubular flowers in the center surrounded by yellow ray flowers. Horticulturally, it is considered a spring-planting annual. In Japanese, it is called "karakusa-shungiku".
