西インド諸島原産の「ぎんりゅう（銀竜）」の園芸品種です。高さは１メートルほどになり、茎はジグザグに屈曲します。葉は卵形から楕円形で互生し、しばしば白色や黄色の斑が入ります。一年中、杯状花序に赤色の苞葉に包まれた花を咲かせます。

トウダイグサ科ペディランツス属の常緑小低木で、学名は Pedilanthus tithymaloides cv. Cucullatus。英名は Slipper flower 'Cucullatus'。

The Slipper flower 'Cucullatus' (Pedilanthus tithymaloides cv. Cucullatus) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is an evergreen subshrub that is a cultivar of Slipper flower. This subshrub can reach about 1 m in height and often with zigzag stems. The leaves are alternate, ovate to elliptic and often variegated with white or yellow. The flowers bloom through the year with red bracts in cyathium.
