わが国の大東諸島、それにミクロネシアやマレーシアに分布しています。湿地や沼地に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。茎は斜上し、太さは６〜８ミリあります。葉は披針形で厚く、縁には短毛が生えます。ほとんど一年中、枝先に穂状花序をだし、白色の小さな花を咲かせます。花被は５深裂します。環境省のレッドリストでは、絶滅危惧ＩＡ類（ＣＲ）に分類されています。

タデ科イヌタデ属の多年草で、学名は Persicaria taitoinsularis (syn. Persicaria japonica var. taitoinsularis)。英名はありません。

The "Daito-sakura-tade" (Persicaria taitoinsularis) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is a perennial herb that is found in Japan's Daito Islands, as well as in Micronesia and Malaysia. It grows in wetlands and marshes and reaches a height of 50 to 100 cm. The stem grows obliquely upward and is 6 to 8 mm thick. The leaves are lanceolate and thick, with short hairs along the margins. It produces spike-like inflorescences at the tips of its branches almost year-round, bearing small white flowers. The perianth is deeply 5-lobed. It is classified as Critically Endangered (CR) on the Ministry of the Environment's Red List.
