アメリカの南部が原産です。溝や低地、道ばたなどに生え、高さは３０〜７５センチになります。茎はまばらに分枝し、葉は卵形から広披針形で互生します。葉には毛が多く、基部は茎を抱きます。４月から５月ごろ、黄色地に基部に赤褐色の斑がある頭花を咲かせます。

キク科ドラコピス属の一年草で、学名は Dracopis amplexicaulis。英名は Clasping-leaf coneflower。

The Clasping-leaf coneflower (Dracopis amplexicaulis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native to the southern United States. This herb grows in ditches, low places or roadsides and can reach 30-75 cm in height. The stem is few-branched. The leaves are alternate, ovate to broadly lanceolate, glabrous and clasping. The yellow with red-brown basal spots flowerheads come in April and May.
