南アフリカが原産です。常緑で耐寒性があります。茎は地面を這い、高さは１０〜１５センチになります。葉は円筒形の多肉質、濃い緑色で対生します。５月の中頃から霜が降りるまで、明るいピンク色で真ん中が白色の花を咲かせます。花は日差しのあるときだけ開き、「ちょう（蝶）」の好きなものです。別名で「たいかんせいまつばぎく（耐寒性松葉菊）」と呼ばれます。

The Hardy ice plant (Delosperma floribunda) belongs to Aizoaceae (the Ice plant family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to South Africa. This herb is cold tolerant. The stems crawl on the ground and can reach 10-15 cm in height. The leaves are cylindrical, fleshy, dark green and arranged oppositely. The bright pink, white-eyed flowers bloom from mid May until the first frost. They open only during sunlight and loved by butterflies.
