アメリカの南西部、テキサス州南西部からカリフォルニア州南部、それにメキシコ北部に分布しています。砂漠に沿った河岸や水路の近くに生え、高さは７．５メートルほどになります。幹は直径１５センチほどになり、暗褐色の樹皮は剥離します。葉は狭披針形で互生し、先端が尖ります。４月から８月ごろ、芳香のある白色の花を咲かせます。花冠の咽部はピンク色から紫色をしています。乾燥した花や莢果からは、ときにお茶が作られることがあります。

ノウゼンカズラ科キロプシス属の落葉低木で、学名は Chilopsis linearis。英名は Desert willow。

The Desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) belongs to Bignoniaceae (the Trumpet creeper family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed to the southwestern United States, from southwestern Texas to southern California, and northern Mexico. This tree grows on stream edges and ditches along the desert, and can reach about 7.5 m in height. The trunk is about 15 cm in diameter, and the dark brown bark is furrowed. The leaves are narrow lanceolate, alternate, with acute tips. The fragrant white flowers bloom from April to August. The corolla has a pink to purple throat. The dried flowers and pods are sometimes brewed into a tea.
