南アフリカの東ケープ州に分布しています。根茎があり、高さは４５〜６０センチになります。葉は革質で細長く束生し、目立つ中肋があります。晩春から初夏にかけて、長い花茎を伸ばして明るいクリーム色の花を咲かせます。外花披片の基部にはオレンジ色と黒褐色の斑紋があります。

アヤメ科ディエテス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Dietes bicolor。英名は Peacock flower、Bicolor iris、Evergreen iris。

The Peacock flower (Dietes bicolor) belongs to Iridaceae (the Iris family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. This herb has elongated rhizomes and can reach 45-60 cm in height. The leaves are leathery, narrow, fasciculate with distinguished center veins. The long flowering stalks are borne and bloom bright cream flowers from late spring to early summer. The outer tepals have orange and brownish black mottles at the bases.
