北アメリカ東部に分布する「アメリカたにうつぎ（アメリカ谷空木）」とアメリカ南東部に分布する「ディエールヴィラ・セッシリフォリア」との交配種です。これは１８５３年に発表され、赤みがかった新芽とコンパクトな生育で知られる多くの品種が生まれました。６月から７月ごろ、枝先の花序に、黄色い筒状花を咲かせます。属名は、１８世紀のフランスの外科医・植物学者、マラン・ディエールヴィル（Marin Diereville）に因みます。別名で「ブッシュハニーサックル」とも呼ばれます。
写真の品種は「コディアック・オレンジ」で、２００９年に「コディアック・レッド」と同じペンシルバニアのナーセリーの畑から選抜されました。新葉はより鮮やかな赤橙色で葉は密に茂り、上へ上へと伸びていきます。秋色はオレンジ色です。

The Bush honeysuckle (Diervilla x splendens) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a deciduous shrub that is a hybrid between the "Diervilla lonicera" from eastern North America and the "Diervilla sessilifolia" from the southeastern United States. It was introduced in 1853 and produced many varieties known for their reddish shoots and compact growth. It produces yellow tubular flowers in June and July on inflorescences at the ends of branches. The genus is named after Marin Diereville, an 18th century French surgeon and botanist.
The variety shown in the photo is "KODIAK Orange", selected in 2009 from the same Pennsylvania nursery field as "KODIAK Red". The new leaves are a brighter red-orange color and the foliage is dense and grows upward. Fall color is orange.
