アメリカの東部から中部に分布しています。高原や草原のやや湿ったところに生え、高さは２０〜６０センチほどになります。葉はロゼット状に叢生します。４月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして紅紫色や白色、ピンク色などの花を下垂して咲かせます。和名では「かたくりもどき（片栗擬き）」と呼ばれます。 |

サクラソウ科ドデカテオン属の多年草で、学名は Dodecatheon meadia。英名は Shooting star、Pride of Ohio。 |

The Shooting star (Dodecatheon meadia) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the eastern part to the central part of the United States. It grows in slightly damp areas of plateaus and grasslands, and can reach 20-60 cm in height. The leaves are crowded like rosettes. From April to June, the flower stalks are stretched and magenta, white, and pink flowers hang down and bloom. In Japanese name, it is called "Katakuri-modoki". |
