The Shooting star (Dodecatheon meadia) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the eastern part to the central part of the United States. It grows in slightly damp areas of plateaus and grasslands, and can reach 20-60 cm in height. The leaves are crowded like rosettes. From April to June, the flower stalks are stretched and magenta, white, and pink flowers hang down and bloom. In Japanese name, it is called "Katakuri-modoki".
