インドからインドネシアが原産です。現在では、熱帯地方で根から殺虫剤を採るために栽培されています。蔓性で長さは１０〜２０メートルになります。枝は、褐色の柔毛が被われています。葉は奇数羽状複葉で、小葉は４〜６対あり倒卵形から長楕円形です。花は淡いピンク色の蝶形花で、花梗の先の総状花序に見られます。

マメ科ドクフジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Derris elliptica。英名は Derris、Tuba root。

The Derris (Derris elliptica) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is an evergreen small tree that is native from India to Indonesia. It is now cultivated in the tropics to get pesticides from the roots. This is a large climber that can reach 10-20 m long. Branches covered with brown pubescent. Leaves are imparipinnate, and leaflets are obovate to oblong, 4-6 pairs. Pale pink papilionaceous flowers are seen usually in the stalked racemes.
