The Prickly rasp fern (Doodia aspera) belongs to the family Blechnaceae. It is an evergreen perennial fern that is distributed in eastern Australia, from Queensland to New South Wales and Victoria. It grows on the edges of rainforests and in eucalyptus forests, reaching a height of 40 to 50 cm. The rhizome is short and spreads by creeping. The leaves are lanceolate, growing to about 20 to 45 cm in length, and are erect. The leaves do not exhibit dimorphism. They are once pinnately compound. Both the frond blade and petiole are densely covered with small projections, giving them a rough texture. The sori are nearly circular, arranged in 1-2 rows on either side of the midrib.
