ヨーロッパの南東部、コーカサス地方から西アジアに分布しています。草原や林内に生え、高さは４０〜５０センチになります。匍匐枝をだして広がり、茎にはわずかに軟毛が生えます。根生葉は卵形から楕円形で長い葉柄があり、茎葉は茎を抱きます。４月から５月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして黄色い頭花を咲かせます。

キク科ドロニクム属の多年草で、学名は Doronicum orientale（syn. Doronicum caucasicum、Doronicum columnae）。英名は Leopard's bane。

The Leopard's bane (Doronicum orientale) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the Caucasus region in the southeastern part of Europe to West Asia. It grows in grasslands and forests and can reach 40 to 50 cm in height. It spreads out with stolons and has slight vellus hairs on the stems. The badal leaves are ovate to elliptic with long petioles, and the cauline leaves embrace the stem. From April to May, the flower stalks are extended and yellow flower heads bloom.
