オーストラリアの東部、クイーンズランド州からニューサウスウェールズ州に分布しています。海岸地帯の湿った硬葉樹林の岩礫地などに生え、高さは５メートルほどになります。基部の葉は剣形で叢生し、長さは３メートルになります。春、長い花茎を伸ばして長い花序をつけ、赤色から赤褐色の花を咲かせます。苞は赤色です。花披片は長さ６〜１２センチあり、直立するかわずかに広がります。

リュウゼツラン科ドリアンテス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Doryanthes palmeri。英名は Spear lily。

The Spear lily (Doryanthes palmeri) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in the eastern part of Australia, from Queensland to New South Wales. It grows on the rocky gravel of moist sclerophyll in the coastal area and is about 5 m high. The leaves at the base are sword-shaped and crowding, and are 3 m long. In spring, long flower stalks are extended to give long inflorescences, and red to reddish brown flowers come in bloom. The bracts are red. The perianths are 6-12 cm long and can stand upright or spread slightly.
