	ドームヤシ属は、アフリカやマダガスカル、中東に約３０種が分布しています。幹は単一または株立ちで、二叉分岐する習性のある唯一のヤシです。葉は中肋をもった掌状葉で、質がかたく灰緑色です。この属は雌雄異株です。
	ヤシ科ドームヤシ属の常緑高木で、学名は Hyphaene sp.（属の総称）。英名は Doum palm、Gingerbread palm。
	The genus Hyphaene belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). About 30 species are distributed in Africa, Madagascar and the Middle East. They are is only palms that the trunk are single or clumping, having dichotomously habit. The leaves are costapalmate fan, and they have firm texture and gray-green color. The genus is dioecious.
