アフリカ東岸のマダガスカル島およびモーリシャス諸島に分布しています。高さは２〜４．５メートルほどになり、茎の先に３０〜５０センチの細長い葉が密生します。赤色の鮮やかな「トリコロル（cv. Tricolor）」や、さらに赤みが強い「トリコロル・レインボー（cv. Tricolor Rainbow）」などの園芸品種があります。和名では「べにふくりんせんねんぼく（紅覆輪千年木）」、一般には「ドラセナ」と呼ばれています。

リュウゼツラン科リュウケツジュ属の常緑低木で、学名は Dracaena concinna。英名は Madagascar dragon tree、Dragon tree。

The Madagascar dragon tree (Dracaena concinna) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in Madagascar and the Mauritius on the east coast of Africa. The height is about 2 to 4.5 m, and elongated leaves of 30 to 50 cm grow densely at the tip of the stem. There are horticultural varieties such as the bright red "cv. Tricolor" and the more reddish "cv. Tricolor Rainbow". In Japanese name, it is called "Beni-fukurin-sennenboku", and generally called "Dracaena".
