北アメリカの北東部が原産です。これは「ドリョプテリス・ゴルディエアナ（Dryopteris goldieana）」と「ドリョブテリス・クリスタータ（Dryopteris cristata）」との繁殖力のある交配種として報告されていて、両方の特徴を併せ持ちます。湿地や湿り気のある森林地帯に生え、高さは６０〜１２０センチになります。葉は２回羽状複葉で、１４〜１６対の羽片がつきます。胞子葉は落葉性で、ふつう栄養葉よりも高くて直立し、やや細めです。栄養葉は、冬に常緑または半常緑です。

オシダ科オシダ属の半常緑のシダ類で、学名は Dryopteris clintoniana (syn. Dryopteris cristata var. clintoniana)。英名は Clinton's wood fern。

The Clinton's wood fern (Dryopteris clintoniana) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is a semi-evergreen fern that is native to northeastern North America. It is reportedly a fertile hybrid between Dryopteris goldiana and Dryopteris cristata, sharing characteristics of both species. This fern grows in swamps and moist woodland areas, and up to a height of 60-120 cm. The leaves are bipinnate with 14-16 pairs of pinnae. The fertile fronds are deciduous and typically taller, more upright but thinner than the sterile fronds. Sterile fronds are evergreen to semi-evergreen in winter.
