The Dryopteris juxtaposita belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from southwestern China to the Himalayas and northern India. It grows in valleys and on riverbanks at altitudes of 1500 to 2500 m, and grows to a height of 50 to 100 cm. The leaves are bipinnate compound, green, and papery. The base of the leaf stalk is covered with dark brown scales. The veins are pinnate, with 6 to 7 pairs of pinnae on each pinna, which are branched. There are 5-6 pairs of sorus on each pinna, and the indisum is round to kidney-shaped. In Chinese, it is called "粗歯鱗毛蕨" (cu chi lin mao jue).
