The Sainte-luce palm (Dypsis saintelucei) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is native to Madagascar. This tree grows in coastal forest on white sand, and up to 6-10 m tall. The trunk is single, about 15 cm in diameter, prominently ringed and green. The crownshaft is long and narrow, covered with heavy layer of white tomentum. The leaves are light green, pinnately compound. The English name comes from the meaning of a palm growing in the forest of Sainte-Luce.
