The Fetid goosefoot (Dysphania graveolen) belongs to Portulacaceae (the Purslane family). It is an annual herb that is distributed in the southwestern United States, from Arizona to Texas, as well as in Mexico, Guatemala, Central America, Peru and northern Argentina. It grows in deserts, dry shrub zones and wastelands, and is 20 to 50 cm tall. The stem is upright and sparsely covered in short hairs. The leaves are oblong and pinnately divided, or entire at the distal end. The leaves give off a strong, pungent scent. From June to August, inconspicuous flowers bloom in a compound umbel at the top of the stem. The fruit is an achene with a subglobose shape.
