わが国の本州、中部地方以北と四国の一部に分布しています。「おおたかねばら（大高嶺薔薇）」の変種で、わが国の固有種です。亜高山帯から高山帯の草地や砂礫地に生え、高さは１〜２メートルになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉です。全体に細かい棘が密生しています。６月から７月ごろ、「はまなす（浜梨）」に似た濃いピンクの花を咲かせます。

バラ科バラ属の落葉低木で、学名は Rosa nipponensis。英名はありません。

"Takane-bara" (Rosa nipponensis) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from Chubu district north to Tohoku district in Honshu and part of Shikoku. It is a variety of "Oo-takane-bara" (Rosa acicularis) and is endemic to Japan. This tree grows on grasslands and gravel in the subalpine to alpine zones and can reach 1-2 meters in height. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound. The whole plant is covered densely with fine spines. The dark pink flowers similar to "Ramanas rose" come in bloom from June to July.
