東南アジアからインド、バングラデシュに分布しています。熱帯雨林や亜熱帯雨林に生え、高さは５０センチほどになります。太くて円筒形の根茎があります。葉は長楕円形または披針形で、長い葉柄がつきます。「コウモリ」に似たかたちの、白色または薄紫色の苞のある暗紫黒色の花を咲かせます。うなだれた個々の花の間には、さらに糸状の長い総苞片があります。果実は長さ２センチほどの液果です。

タシロイモ科タシロイモ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Tacca integrifolia。英名は White batflower、Black lily。

The White batflower (Tacca integrifolia) belongs to the family Taccaceae. It is a perennial evergreen herb that is distributed from Southeast Asia to India and Bangladesh. It grows in tropical and subtropical rainforests, and is about 50 cm tall. It has a thick, cylindrical rhizome. The leaves are oblong or lanceolate, with long leaf stalks. It produces dark purple-black flowers with white or light purple bracts that resemble bats. There are also long, thread-like involucral scales between the drooping individual flowers. The fruit is a berry about 2 cm long.
