"Takane-kourinka" (Senecio takedanus) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and is distributed in Oku-Shiga, Yunomaru Plateau, Northern and Southern Alps and Yatsugatake in Honshu. It grows in subalpine to alpine grasslands and gravel, and can reach 10-40 cm in height. The stems and leaves are thinly covered with cotton-like hair. From late July to August, orange flower heads bloom at the tips of the stems. The ray flowers are short and do not open flat. The involucres and long bracts are dark purple.
