わが国の本州、東北地方南部から中部地方、それに四国・九州に分布しています。山地の渓流沿いに生え、よく分枝して、高さは１．５〜２メートルになります。葉は楕円形から卵状楕円形で、縁には細かい鋸歯があり対生します。８月から９月ごろ、茎頂に複散房花序をだし、薄紫色の両性花と白色の装飾花を咲かせます。名前は、つぼみが総苞に包まれて丸いことから。 |

アジサイ科アジサイ属の落葉低木で、学名は Hydrangea involucrata。英名はありません。 |

The "Tama-ajisai" (Hydrangea involucrata) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native southward from southern Tohoku district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan. This tree grows along mountain streams and can reach 1.5-2 m in height. It is much branched and the leaves are elliptic to ovate-elliptic with fine toothed edges. The compound corymbs are borne on the new branches and bloom pale purple bisexual flowers at center, neuter white flowers at around the periphery from August to September. The buds are round and covered with bracts. |
