マレー半島が原産です。高さは２０メートルほどになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉で互生し、小葉は披針形をしています。７月から８月ごろ、大きな円錐花序に白い花を咲かせます。果実は卵形から倒卵形で、１月から４月ごろ黄色に熟します。繊維状の果肉があり、食用にされます。

ウルシ科スポンディアス属の落葉高木で、学名は Spondias cytherea (syn. Spondias dulcis)。英名は Golden apple、Hog plum、Ambarella。

The Golden apple (Spondias cytherea) belongs to Anacardiaceae (the Sumac family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to the Malay Peninsula. This tree can reach about 20 m in height. The leaves are alternate, impari-pinnate compound with lancelate leaflets. The white flowers bloom in large panicles from July to August. The fruits are ovate to obovate, and ripen yellow from January to April. The fleshes of fruits are fibrous and used as food.
