わが国の各地をはじめ、中国中部の河北省から四川省に分布しています。山地の谷沿いや湿った林内に生え、高さは４０〜８０センチになります。葉は広楕円形で互生し、基部は茎を抱きます。７月から９月ごろ、上部の葉腋から散房花序をだし、黄色い花を咲かせます。花披片には暗い紫褐色の斑があります。和名は、花の色を「やまぶき（山吹）」に見立て、その名所であった京都府井手町の玉川に名を借りたもの。中国語では「寛葉油点草（kuan ye you dian cao）」と呼ばれます。 |

The "Tamagawa-hototogisu" (Tricyrtis latifolia) belongs to Liliaceae (thw Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to all over Japan and central China; southward from Hebei to Sichuan province. This herb grows in montane dales and wet woodlands, and it can reach 40-80 cm in height. The leaves are broad elliptic, alternate and enfold stems at the bases. The corymbs are borne on the upper axiles and bloom yellow flowers from July to September. The tepals have dark purplish-brown mottles. The Japanese name likens the flower's color to "yamabuki" (Bachelor's button) and borrows its name from Tamagawa in Ide Town, Kyoto Prefecture, a famous spot for these flowers. It is called "寛葉油点草" (kuan ye you dian cao) in Chinese. |
