わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、それにユーラシア大陸北部に分布しています。「えぞかわらなでしこ」の高山型で、高山帯の砂礫地や岩場に生え、高さは１０〜３０センチになります。茎や葉は粉白色を帯びます。７月から９月ごろ、茎頂に紅紫色の花を咲かせます。花弁の先端は３分の２ほど細かく裂けます。苞は２対あり、先端が尾状に尖ります。

ナデシコ科ナデシコ属の多年草で、学名は Dianthus superbus var. speciosus。英名はありません。

"Takane-nadeshiko" (Dianthus superbus var. speciosus) belongs to Caryophyllaceae (the Carnation family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chubu district of Honshu north to Hokkaido in Japan, as well as the northern part of Eurasian Continent. It is an alpine variety of Fringed pink (Dianthus superbus var. superbus). This herb grows in alpine screes and rocky places, and can reach 10-30 cm in height. The stems and leaves are tinged powdery white. The magenta flowers bloom atop of stems from July to September. The two-third of petals are divided into fine segments. The corolla has two pairs of bracts with caudate apexes.
