The Frogmouth (Philydrum lanuginosum) belongs to the family Philydraceae. It is a perennial herb that is distributed from southern Kyushu to Okinawa in Japan and Taiwan, Southeast Asia, India and Australia. The northern limit is Fukue Island in the Goto Islands. It grows in wetlands and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are sword-shaped and bundled. From August to October, long flower stalks are extended to form spikes and small yellow flowers bloom. The Japanese name is because long brown hairs grow densely on the stem and resemble a raccoon dog. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "田蔥".
