わが国の本州、中部地方および北海道、それに周極地方に広く分布しています。高山帯の砂礫地や湿地に生え、高さは５〜２０センチになります。根生葉は披針形で羽状に深裂し、茎葉は３〜４個が輪生します。７月から９月ごろ、茎頂に穂状花序をだし、紅紫色から白色の花を咲かせます。

ゴマノハグサ科シオガマギク属の一年草で、学名は Pedicularis verticillata。英名は Verticillate lousewort。

The Verticillate lousewort (Pedicularis verticillata) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is an annual herb that is distributed to Chubu district of Honshu and Hokkaido of Japan, and the circumpolar. This herb grows in alpine screes and bogs, and can reach 5-20 cm in height. The basal leaves are lanceolate and pinnatifid, the cauline leaves are 3-4 whorled. The spike is borne on the stem apices and blooms purplish-red to white flowers from June to September.
