わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、それにアジアの東北部に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の砂礫地に生え、高さは１０〜３５センチになります。葉は広線形です。７月から８月ごろ、茎頂に直立した花序をだし、３〜６個の小さな花を咲かせます。中国語では「華北地楊梅（hua bei di yang mei）」と呼ばれます。

イグサ科スズメノヤリ属の多年草で、学名は Luzula oligantha。英名はありません。

The "Takane-suzume-no-hie" (Luzula oligantha) belongs to Juncaceae (the Rush family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan and northeastern Asia. This herb grows in subalpine to alpine screes and can reach 10-35 cm in height. The leaves are broad-linear. The erect clusters are borne on the stem apices and bloom 3-6 small flowers from July to August. In Chinese, it is called "華北地楊梅" (hua bei di yang mei).
